Newy Epic Round-up: February 2024

Last Saturday, the 24th of February, started off with some pretty crappy weather, but despite that, a group of 12 brave souls decided to embrace the elements and have a blast. Things got interesting when we hit a particularly muddy gravel section, and that's when Mike, who was multitasking as both rider and photographer, took a tumble.

Thankfully, Garry came prepared with a first aid kit and managed to patch up Mike's rather sub-optimal elbow situation resulting from the mud mishap. Once we were out of the muck, we were treated to some stunning secret Strava segments around the Swansea and Belmont areas, offering gorgeous views of the mist-covered Lake Macquarie.

Afterwards, we took a relaxed pit stop in Belmont where we replenished our energy with Cokes, BRB Free Time 0% beer (gotta love that option!), chips, bananas, and oranges. Kerry entertained us with tales from Shark Tank and a hilarious story about the engineer who got it all wrong.

As we made our way back to where we started at Drift Bikes Kotara, Deb and Tom took the lead, setting a nice pace. This time, we decided to skip the slush. All in all, it was a fantastic ride, and we unanimously agreed that we should definitely do it again, preferably in sunnier conditions. Stay tuned for future renditions of the Newy Epic, a different loop every time!
